Lorne McCan, a Bakersfield High graduate, started practicing locally in 1991, but knew decades ago he would become a chiropractor. The realization came after his father suffered a back injury when Lorne was a teenager. "He was like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Someone had told him to see a good chiropractor and he thought, "What do I have to lose?" McCan said. "I saw what chiropractic did for him and I wanted to do that for others. It's an awesome thing."

Since 1999, Lorne McCan began cutting costs and simplifying his life. He abandoned insurance payments at McCan Family Chiropractic and charges one price for an adjustment for the only chiropractic service he will be offering. "Insurance companies are getting stricter requiring more and paying less," he said, "I was tired of playing the insurance game." Providing chiropractic care at reduced fees with no insurance paperwork it not a new concept, but it's gaining popularity among chiropractors seeking simplicity and a means to get chiropractic services to more people.
